Sony deny rumours of new PSP

Internet reports dismissed

Following a report this week in the US edition of the official PlayStation magazine, rumours began circulating across the interweb that a brand new PSP is currently being created at Sony. The article, which caused quite a stir in curtain quarters of the online community, pointed to brand new hardware due out as early as March next year, with developers having apparently been 'briefed' on the new gizmo. The magazine also claimed that insider sources had promised a thinner and lighter PSP, but for their part Sony are saying the contrary officially.

Speaking to industry site GamesIndustry.biz, a spokesperson for the Japanese hardware giant assured the press that "We currently have no plans to release another version of the PSP." It was however added in the official response that Sony are plotting enhancements and add-ons for the machine, and some of these will apparently be revealed at the Tokyo Games Show later this month. "The camera and GPS peripherals will be the main attraction, and a total of 16 titles will be showcased to demonstrate the strong line-up of software that will be released towards the year," we're told.

On another note, a whole smorgasbord of PS3 titles will be playable at the show, which is now looking like the world's number one gaming event with ESA having revealed plans to down-scale E3. More as we get it.

what are your thoughts?

  1. i think im probably a few of the many people who own a psp, who cant live without it, ive been in few car jams and playing on the psp was the more refreshing than waiting for the cars to fade away, it has great functionality and surfing the net is pretty good, with partitioning my mem stick i was able to play gba games using emulation, if there was more support for open sourcing, then there could be many thing the psp could do

  4. No, you are a cheep lazy ass who wants to play 4-year old games(Animal crossing DS, KIRBY!?!?) unless your just some pissed little kid who cant find any games your age besides LOCOROCO, which is a cool game BTW! PSP is for the mature scene, while DS is made for kids. Dosent even play music or have internet! LOL!!!
