Sony have announced that the Playstation 3 will now be the first of the next-gen consoles to be revealed to the world. After Microsoft announced that their pre-E3 conference schedule, it was only a matter of time before Sony announced that their own event would kick off just before their competitor's. Sony plans to reveal the PS3 to the assembled press at 15.00 on May the 16th, a scant three hours before Microsoft goes before the world with the first unveiling of the Xbox 2.

The distance between these two essential events, both to be held in the sprawling metropolis of Los Angeles, is going to cause some headaches for the attending media, with the journey time between the two locations raising the possibility that Sony could drag their show out to disrupt the timing of Microsoft's party. Of course, Sony would never do such a thing intentionally. Even before the machines have been revealed, the next-gen console wars are off to a vicious start.

Up to this point any specific details on the hardware makeup of either console have been rarer then one-legged unicycle riders, but a little is known about the broader outlines of each console. So far, the PS3's most hyped feature is the new custom Cell processors which will form the heart of the machine. The Xbox 2 counters with a switch from Nvidia to ATi for graphics duties. Apart from these few titbits just about everything else concerning the new consoles, from storage to looks and from controllers to connectivity, remains conjecture and rumour, so come May the 16th it's going to be a very busy day for gaming sites around the world. We will have all the news as soon as we know more.

me too, if it's as good as the hype, i cant wait. i really dont think nintendo is going the right way with revolution though. thats just my opinion:-)

Sony should drag it out the whole day. Wouldn't be hard; they could hire rappers to hold a PS3 concert. Heck, Sony should buy the entire E3 event. That way Microsoft and Nintendo won't even stand a chance. Maybe then, Nintendo will FINALLY go out of business, and Microsoft will go back to their stupid Windoze, which Sony will take over soon enough with their own OS.
    The future is Sony! :-)

yea future is sony if you want overly high priced consoles.... what sony should do is get in the OS business .... every market needs a competitor to help progress technology at a faster pace and to bring prices down im glad MS and Sony are dueling it out like this its for the good of the customer

The title of this one is so incredibly ironic, considering that MS had a Joker all along. This could turn out to the the most interesting console marketing war yet, and the consoles haven't even been revealed yet! XD

Too bad nobody'll care about the Suck-Box 2, even though it's being announced on MTV. They'll all be busy listening to freshly sapped info on the PS3!
We all know the XBox 2 will ultimately fail to the PS3's grip of power.

I disagree with duremot_sony once again; I believe that Xbox 2 and PS3 will be in the same calibur of high-tech videogaming (Nintendo is questionable, they are more focused on kiddy games). Remember, Sonyboy, Microsoft (or in jerk-language, to help you understand, Microsuck) is a COMPUTER company, and video games have computers in them! So I think Xbox 2 will have a LITTLE bit of a chance to compete with a console made a television company. Or maybe Nintendo will climb back on the top, for it IS a video game company, if you haven't noticed.
