New EA games go next-gen
New titles from Illusion and Criterion
We already knew that Illusion Softworks Battlefield: Modern Combat was en route to the PS2 and Xbox, but we we've now learnt is that the multiplayer-opus will also be developed for the Xbox 2 and PS3, as previously hinted by the developers. The new next-gen Battlefield is expected to arrive late in 2006 or 2007, so is still some way off, but this is the first title EA has confirmed for the next-generation of machines.
The new formats are not expected to impact development for the current generation, likewise Criterion are now also said to be working on a version of FPS 'Black' for the Xbox 2. We've no word yet on a PS3 version, and even this development is speculative currently however.
EA recently acquired Criterion, and are in the process of bagging Digital Illusions too, so it is little surprise that these premier studios have been selected to spearhead EA's crucial assault on the next-generation of consoles. As ever, we'll keep you up-dated on all the latest.

It's Digital Illusions CE (DICE), NOT Illusions Softworks that create Modern Combat.
