Having already confirmed an official unveiling at next year's E3 expo in May, Sony have now let slip that further details on their 'next console' will be with us by the end of 2004. Sony dropped this bombshell at their annual PlayStation Meeting in Tokyo, where a timeline mentioned the Psone, PS2, PSP and PS3 – informing us that developers and publishers will also begin receiving development kits in early 2005.
The tentative 2004 unveiling will apparently coincide approximately with the fifth anniversary of the PS2's launch, and the first version of the TOOL development suite will also be ready for use in early 2005. This industry unveiling will be followed by the public airing at E3 2005, and the first playable PS3 titles are expected at the Tokyo Games Show 2005, held every September.
With more information on the PS3 now expected by the end of the year, additional pressure must now surely have been heaped upon Microsoft's shoulders to top Sony's efforts. We fully expect word on the Xbox 2 at this September's X04 therefore. More soon.
