George Lucas' THX audio standard has made the first tentative steps into the games industry; offering developers and publishers endorsed high-quality standards to work to, as they currently do in the movie business.

From this day forth, titles will be able to carry the THX logo as recognition for outstanding audio. EA's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King will be the first title to carry the new standard, and will be followed by other EA offerings SSX 3, Medal of Honour Rising Sun, Need for Speed Underground and James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing.

Of course, the amount of high-tech sound equipment and studio facilities required to live-up to THX's standards don't come cheap, and with this in mind it may well be only the likes of EA that can afford to carry the new endorsement.

With this in mind it will be interesting to see what inroads the company can make into their new industry of choice.
