Amazon Spore scores spammed over DRM
Limitations rile gamers
Amazon's user reviews of Spore took quite a beating over the weekend, after those protesting against EA's stiff DRM measures decided to vent their spleen by awarding the game just one star en masse.
Consumers and anti-DRM activists have been railing against the game, and its publisher EA, after it emerged you can only install each copy of the game three times, although inevitably people with circumvent this.
The one-star reviews certainly don't make good reading on Amazon; here's a typical comment on the listing:
"This basically means that you are actually RENTING the game, instead of owning it. The game WILL stop to function in the future. That's inevitable, because even if EA keeps the activation servers going, there IS going to be a time when EA will simply cease to exist because of financial issues or federal laws (like most business eventually do)."
In other news, Spore has been widely distributed via torrents and peer-to-peer services since debuting on Friday.
