Activision's senior Call of Duty: World at War producer Noah Heller raised a storm of controversy over the weekend after describing Ubisoft's rival WWII title Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway as a "crappy war game".

This prompted developer Treyarch to release a rapid fire response disassociating themselves from the remark, describing it as "offensive", and assuring they have total respect for their rival developer Gearbox.

"Over the weekend, we learned that some disparaging comments were made by an Activision rep at a recent Call of Duty: World at War press event. We want to let everyone know that we found those remarks offensive, and they do not in any way represent the feelings of any developer at this studio or at Activision," responded Treyarch's community chief.

Heller had told Eurogamer that the company aren't even looking at BiA, stating that "we think about the best shooters, we play Modern Warfare, we play Gears of War, we play Halo. That's the competition," before adding controversially: "We don't want to look at someone who's just making a crappy war game."
