A new rumour kick-started by one NeoGaf thread has it that Activision's Guitar Hero IV will incorporate a drum set, bass guitar and microphone - as well as giving gamers the chance to craft and share their own music.

The thread in question purports to derive its information from a new Game Informer preview, en route stateside.

The game is said to be in the works for the PS3, 360, Wii and PS2, although certain features will be omitted from the PS2 and Wii editions.

A new guitar controller is on the way, we hear, with 'see-through notes' adding a new dynamic to gameplay.

Initially, we're told players will be able to create five home-made tracks, although vocals will be omitted owing to copyright issues. A song-sharing service will help users craft album art and the like, and the the five track limit will be raised for players earning good feedback.

Van Halen, The Eagles, Linkin' Park and Sublime are all mooted for inclusion. More on this as we get it.
