Fans of the Diablo series might wish to sit down and try to stay calm at this point, as today we get our strongest hint yet that a Diablo 3 could be on the way - Blizzard perhaps finally beginning to take note of fans clamours for a new outing. The suggestion that the game is indeed on the way comes from fantasy writer Richard A. Knaak, who is busy writing a new book set in the Diablo world.

The first book is called Diablo: The Sin War, Book One: Birthright, but lengthy names aside, we're more intrigued by what the author has to say. "What happens in the Sin War is significant, as I mentioned, toward the future," the author teased on a Diablo fan forum. "I know that Blizzard is very eager to make Diablo fans happy."

The writer is planning a trilogy, and when forum posters persisted with their questions, he added: "I am not writing for a dead world... but a world with dead." So there we go.

Of course, neither Blizzard or VU Games are saying anything on the prospect of a Diablo 3 - but we reckon the developer must at least be planning something... even if it remains some way off. More as we get it.
