Blomkamp charged with Halo film
Out in 2008...
A few new details have emerged today on the forthcoming cinematic adaptation of Bungie and Microsoft's best-selling Halo games. Neill Blomkamp, previously a director of short films and commercials, will take charge of the prestigious project, backed heavily by Microsoft who are already armed with a one-million dollar Alex Garland (The Beach) script.
"As a gaming fan, I'm excited to bring Halo's premise, action and settings to the screen with all the specificity and reality today's technology can provide. Fran and I are intrigued by the unique challenges this project offers, and we're delighted to be working again with our friends at Universal, and with our new ones at Fox and Microsoft. With Neill on board, I'm even more excited by the potential of this project," commented Peter Jackson, who has been recruited by Microsoft to help deliver the film.
Blomkamp has a history in digital arts, so should work well alongside Jackson's WETA Digital, who are charged with the extensive special effects to be used in Halo. We also learn that the new film will be released in the summer of 2008, which could also suggest a new Halo videogame will be released around this time.
