Having previously confirmed that an EyeToy-style peripheral is en route for the Xbox 360 console, Microsoft this week reveal that the new hardware will be based on designs by GestureTek, who are currently beavering away on the project. The device will apparently be known as the Xbox Live Vision camera.

As with the innovative EyeToy extra on the PS2, the Vision camera will see players controlling on-screen events simply with the movement of their body, with Gesturetek suggesting examples such as poker games, volleyball, martial arts or even bullet dodging.

"Gesture recognition and control is a logical evolution in gaming," beamed GestureTek boss Bill Leconby. "Our technology has been thrilling and entertaining users in public and private installations around the world since well before the movie Minority Report popularised the concept of gesture control. This offering opens doors to unlimited applications in the gaming experience."

For their part Microsoft were also vocal in their approval of Gesturetek's forthcoming creation, which they too believe will help push the proverbial envelope. Microsoft certainly have some leg-work to do if they're to close ground on Sony's EyeToy, which has so far pushed the sale of several million games. More as we get it.

The eye toy? come on that sucked. Who would really want to buy that? The wii will give much better gamelpay than an eyetoy or what ever microsoft are making.

LoL. I wouldnt say that yet. Im waiting for both Wii and the Gesture to come out. Dont make judgements till the round ends. Remember what happened in the last round. PS2 and Xbox both kept on their toes and sold out stuff. Gamecube didnt really do much but give little kids something their parents would actually let them play. Im thinking the console wars will be close next year. PS3- MGS4, Warhawk, an actual online service (the PS2 one SUCKED)... 360- Halo 3 (you know you wanna scream who-raa!!), the new version of XBOX LIVE owns any online service out there, Gesture (with much better support from GestureTek, the world wide leader in motion control movement), and bunch of stuff you should check at E3. for Wii. all i can say is- RE series, Wii Camera, and Zelda.
