Junction Point get Steamy
Spector sides with Valve
Warren Spector's brand new development studio, founded since the designer left the now defunct ION Storm, will be distributing their debut title via Valve's Steam delivery system online, according to a statement on Junction Point's official website. The new game, an action-packed shooter-RPG, conceived by Spector (previously responsible for the excellent Deus Ex) is perhaps the most high-profile game set to be delivered by Steam to date. Using online distribution technology, Steam saves fortunes on real-world distribution costs, whilst also benefiting from the marketing opportunities afforded in utilising the same system which gave the world not only Half-Life 2 but Counter-Strike as well. Spector's RPG will actually makes use of Valve's Source engine technology too, like several other games forthcoming on Steam, including Ritual's SiN Episodes.
As well as titles using Valve technology like Junction Point's debut game, Steam has also been used of late to distribute several third-party games, such as Rag Doll Kung Fu or the just announced Red Orchestra. As well as announcing this high-profile collaboration, the developer's website also reveals that a second 'top secret' project is underway, with positions now going on the development team, according to a report from industry site Gamasutra.com. Artists are being sought for a new game, and must be able to: "conceive, sketch (and maybe even model and animate) cartoon mice, cats and wabbits. We need help creating and fleshing out surreal Wagnerian opera sets and places like Balloonyland or Wackyland." More on this as we get it.
