UK developer Mucky Foot, the team behind Startopia and Urban Chaos - among other titles - is to close following the cancellation of a major project by a publisher, it's been suggested. The Guildford-based developer has entered liquidation, with all staff being made redundant.

Hopes were high for the developer, formed by a few ex-Bullfrog chaps, however they fell victim to the same financial crush which has caused the downfall of many other small UK developers recently, including Computer Artworks, Lost Toys, Hot Gen and Silicon Dreams. Sad times for UK games development indeed.

Well there goes my long hoped for sequel to Startopia. That was a very inventive and lovingly crafted game which deserved so much more success then it got. The Biodeck alone was a brilliant touch showing off some nice code and art skills. Their following titles seemed to loose direction though, lacking that spark which made Startopia such a shinning title. Also sad that another British team goes to the wall. Best of luck to the guys to get something good going again real soon.

Everytime I see that Mucky Foot died, I feel strangely mournful. A while back, I saw on the front page of their website a load of writing from the people there. Now their site doesn't exist at all. Well, anyway, I'm just babbling, but I loved them and I want them back.

I played Startopia for 8 hours straight! It was and is an amazing game. Here's hoping Muckyfoot will return, possibly under a new guise
