PS3 outselling Xbox 360 globally
Second-quarter results see Sony succeed
During the second-quarter of 2008, the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 across the globe, Sony are proudly telling anyone who will listen this week.
The impressive sales performance covers the three-month period ending September 30th, over which time the PS3 managed sales of 2.43 million units. That's double the 2007 total, and some way ahead of the 360's 2.2 million figure.
News of the PS3's impressive sales comes in spite of Xbox 360 price cuts in early September, which are expected to propel Microsoft to a bumper Christmas, so don't be surprised if fortunes are reversed in the third-quarter.
Sony's games devision also reveal that they have cut losses for the second-quarter, helped by PSP sales of 3.18 million. The PS2 also managed an impressive 2.5 million over the quarter. More shortly.

This does not surprise me really. Sony has been out pacing the Xbox for over a year now. It will catch up to the Xbox and then pass it right up (GLOBALLY)
...and if it does??? So What, who cares whos outselling who
I like how the PS2 outsold the PS3.
The PS3 and Xbox360 are both struggling in Japan and the difference in there sales isn't really a lot, I want to know what the Wii did in this 3 month period probably 4 million
MS waited a long time before it started to price cut the 360 because it could, now that it's been on the market for a while it's getting very aggressive with pricing and in the current financial climate i'm sure they will benefit from the lower price point, the PS3 is at the stage in it's lifespan where it should be outselling it's older rival by a wide margin if it ever hopes to catch up with it's early lead, if you look at the overall sales, the gap is still about the same as we it launched and if MS do well this Christmas with it's new low price as has been predicted then i can't see Sony catching them up this gen. Only aggressive price cuts by Sony could change things and that would just be throwing more money away just to keep their profile in the gaming industry, they are already losing far more money per console than MS and with a smaller attach rate they are not recouping their losses. Sony have big pockets and PS2 + PSP money coming in but how much is it worth to them to keep the Playstation brand alive when it's never likely to break even on it's development costs?
P.S I will not reply to fanboy comments, i'm not interested in flame wars, i'm in retail and only into sales trends.
