Blizzard look to monetise Battle.net
Wilson hints at potential subscription approach
The evolution of Blizzard's multiplayer Battle.net service will enter a new phase with the launch of StarCraft II. A new version of the online platform will launch alongside the new RTS, and we hear you may have to pay to access certain parts of it.
"We are looking to monetize Battle.net so that we get to keep making these games and updating features," Blizzard co-founder Jay Wilson told BlizzCon. "We kind of have to."
It is unclear when the new Battle.net will be launched, or exactly how it'll work, however the game maker has already spoken of a desire to greatly expand the platform. Could some kind of subscription approach be on the cards?
We'll keep you posted on all the latest out of BlizzCon.
