The latest hardware sales figures are in from Japan, and it looks as if last week was a bad one for Sony's next-gen PS3 console, the system hitting its lowest weekly total.

For once, the Xbox 360 comes in ahead of the PS3, with the humble PS2 beating both so-called next-gen systems.

For the week-ending October 5th, the DS lead hardware charts, shifting in excess of 42,000 systems. The PSP was second with 26,000, the Wii just off this with 25,000.

Fourth was the PS2 with 8,000 and then there's the 360 with a few hundred less. The PS3 is last with just over 7,000 systems sold. Ouch.
