Prequel premise for Deus Ex 3
Bio-mods, stealth gameplay and more cited
Eidos Interactive have confirmed over the weekend that Eidos Montreal's third Deus Ex title will be a prequel to the previous two releases, and will ditch the shadow-based gameplay mechanic in favour of a new cover stealth system, complete with BioShock-style bio add-ons.
We also hear that weapons will be customisable, and that you'll be able to update them as you progress through the new action RPG.
In the new game, players will assume the role of Adam Jensen, a private security officer in the year 2027. You'll be working at a lab which creates biomods. He-llo. Inevitably, something is about to go wrong at the lab...
Like the first Deus Ex, number three will include a skill system for upgrading your character, and as you can assign points to Jensen you can do the same to evolve your weaponry, PC Zone are told.
Speaking with Voodoo Extreme, Eidos' community manager also revealed that the new game is all about weapons skills, rather than stats, also letting us know that auto-restoring health is the order of the day a la CoD 4.
On the subject of progress through the game, VE were told: "The gameplay takes the form of a consequence-driven multi-path, multi-solution approach in a non-linear space."
Deus Ex 3 is out in 2009 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. We'll bring you more on all this soon.
