The wants and needs of the hardcore gamer are becoming less and less a concern of the games industry, that's the word from a new report by Forbes this week.

Apparently, this is all part of a 'paradigm shift'; the rise of the non-hardcore gamer and gaming's move in general towards being a pursuit of the many, rather than the few.

The cost - of course - is that core gamers are being 'nudged aside' by gaming firms eager to cater for 'parents and seniors'.

Indie firms, however, are likely to emerge catering for hardcore-types, while Warren Spector isn't worried: "They are less relevant to major publishers, but they are more relevant to independent developers."
