Microsoft's Xbox Live promotion, "Summer of Arcade", has helped the service achieve record monthly revenue for August; an increase of 67% over the previous record.

The five weeks of high-profile releases on the Arcade have also brought a whopping 58% increase in sales to unique members, Microsoft reports.

The Summer of Arcade kicked off on July 30th and included sweepstakes, which gave Xbox Live members the chance to win prizes by logging in and playing the featured games. Included in the line-up of Summer titles are Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, Braid, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Galaga Legions and Castle Crashers.

Despite the number of successful releases to date Microsoft remarked that there are a more big names in the pipeline: Valve's Portal: Still Alive, Xbox Live Productions/DoubleSix's South Park, and Irem/Tozai's R-Type Dimensions.

Xbox Live general manager, Marc Whitten offered this on the Summer of Arcade: "We have plenty more great titles coming out in the next few months and beyond that we think will continue to fuel this incredible momentum."

Whether or not the upcoming releases will be packaged in a winter promotion remains to be seen.
