Pachter expects vast sales below 199 USD
Mass market awaits price cuts
Chatty gaming analyst Michael Pachter believes that next-generation console sales won't really take-off until consoles are priced below the 199 USD mark.
Speaking to GamePro, he said that 90% of previous generation sales took place after consoles fell below that price-point, meaning that PS3 and Xbox 360 sales won't show their full potential until 2010 or so.
"As consoles come down in price, the manufacturers will sell more of them, and the market will continue to expand. Around 90% of last-generation console sales were made at the 199 USD price point or below," he offered.
"Only wealthy or hardcore gamers have purchased consoles so far, given that the PS3 is still 399 USD, the 360 is still 349 USD, and the Wii is still 249 USD. When prices drop below 200 USD (probably in 2010), the mass market will emerge."
More on this as we get it.
