Call of Duty: World at War spied
Co-op, Wii version, 'grittiness', and more
Call of Duty 5, Treyarch's WWII-themed FPS title that heads back to old school conflict after the pleasant diversion of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, has been detailed today in a UK games magazine.
Called Call of Duty: World at War according to gamesTM, the game will be set in the Pacific during US operations against the Imperial Japanese in the closing days of WWII.
Gritty, scarily intelligent action is the order of the day, we're promised, with co-op play included for the first time. The game will be released on the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, we're told.
On the Wii version, we hear the game will be developed at Treyarch by a separate development team. All versions of the game, including the Wii version, will use the Call of Duty 4 game engine; and it'll be closer to the other next-gen editions than any previous release.
The Wii outing will include support for the Wii Zapper, we hear.
"The opening scene of the first level we are shown is a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat - the blood splatters and dribbles down the side of the tent you are being held in. He turns towards you to deal out the same treatment but help arrives just in time. Cue a daring level-long escape," the magazine says, as quoted by VG247.
More on World at War soon.
