Everquest, EyeToy and the Quake 4 leakage mix-it-up
More headline news
It's been quite a busy day on the news front, so please excuse this summary of some of the day's less-detailed events. First things first, word has reached us that the PS2 version of Everquest will be released upon the adoring masses this September, and promises a gentle introduction to the world of the MMOG for console gamers.
Elsewhere, the good news for Sony and the PS2 continues unabated with not only Ubi Soft confirming two exclusive titles (reported earlier on this site), but the EyeToy hitting the number one all-formats spot in the UK. In its third week on-sale the EyeToy: Play finally toppled Lara to take the crown and quite frankly it deserves the kudos, as I discovered over the weekend.
The peripheral looks set to be a runaway success, proving as infectious and sociable as the excellent variety of dancing games/mats also available on the PS2. The toy allows you to partake in all manner of fun and quirky physical games that will see you cleaning windows, popping balloons and playing football keepy-uppy among several other small games that will be played using motion detection and place your own delightful visage on your telly. Quite frankly its great.
Onto more serious news as some images from the mysterious Quake 4 were leaked onto the internet over the weekend, featuring numerous pieces of art work that it turned out had been leaked illicitly into forums. The upshot of this leakage was a rather swift and aggressive response from id Software and publisher Activision, who were very quick to lay down the law to offending media, offering this warning, taken from Gamesindustry.biz:
We do not know the source of these leaked assets. Please be warned that id Software has instructed Activision that we are not to work with any magazine which uses any of these assets. If any magazine does so, id Software will not allow any assets for id games to be sent to these magazines in the future.
