More news from Activision's financial briefing stateside, publishing boss Mike Griffith telling investors in the games publisher a little more about the firm's ambitions for Guitar Hero IV.

The publishing CEO wouldn't answer investor questions about the prospect of new instruments being added (Acti CEO Bobby Kotick had previously hinted they would be), however he did assure that the new rhythm-action title will deliver a "significant leap forward in innovation."

The game will be crafted for the PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii and DS; it will be released later this year.

More news is expected in a few weeks, but Griffith did offer: "We’ve put a lot of additional development resources, a lot of additional music licenses resources, a lot of additional hardware supplier resources against the title to fuel growth over next year.

"We’re excited by the increased musical content and innovation we’re bringing. We do expect a leap forward in innovation with our holiday launch, and we’re about two weeks away from providing very specific details on that."

    A little rant... :)

    What sort of innovation?

Development of a platform standard for guitar controllers?

Innovation in a fairer pricing structure for gamers globally?

It might not mean much much to people who live in the US but just about everywhere else in the world pays twice as much for games and gaming gear.
We even pay twice as much for downloaded content (i.e. no optical media, no middle-man, no warehousing, no shipping) when our currencies are as good as, if not stronger than the "green-back", for crying out loud!

Through the lack of support which ultimately Activision shows to my platform of choice of two killer titles which I own (Call of Duty 4 and Guitar Hero III) I should be forgiven for thinking there's a bias against non-Microsoft-supported platforms.

Tardy CoD4 support aside, the mean-spirited approach taken by Activision in blocking compatibility with Rock Band for PS3 owners was incredulous. For those of us living outside of the US, we're disadvantaged again... unless you're a 360 owner in which case you can import just the Rock Band game and play using the GHII controller and Activision is fine with that.
(Please, no fan-boi flames. I'm not knocking the 360 and in return I do not want to hear any "nyah-nyahs")

The downloadable content (again, from the PS3 perspective) is woeful in comparison to that offered by Rock Band.

I don't want to wait for the 'next' thing before my platform is on an equal footing.
I've already paid my equivalent to US$140.00 and I want my money's worth now!
