Outgoing Microsoft big wig Bill Gates has told Japanese newspaper Mainichi that he believes the Xbox Live service can still sell the Xbox 360 to Japan, despite dismal sales of the console so far.

Kotaku report this news, noting that Gates also believes the online service can help the 360 crack other markets that are presently somewhat ambivalent to Microsoft's entertainment device.

"Product share varies from country to country," Gates is quoted as stating.

What do you think, gamers?

Unfortunately, if Microsoft gave away free X-Boxes in Japan they wouldn't want them. Unlike the US, Japanese people take pride in their own products and support their companies with a patriotic fervor. The US citizen supports Japan and not American products. If I were Microsoft I'd discontinue shipping to those markets that show the wrong demographic for the product.
