MCV are reporting this morning that Atari claim sales of Enter the Matrix have now hit a staggering 2.5 million worldwide. Many were sceptical that the game could hit the 4 million target set by Infograme's (Atari) massive initial shipping - but if this report proves true then they're well on the way.

"In view of the performance to date, Enter the Matrix is on the right track," said CEO Bruno Bonnell. "It is very satisfactory to see a title become a true success from its launch, but it's even more exciting to see that world demand for Enter the Matrix remained steady."

This news will no doubt come as a relief to Atari's shareholders, too.

With this and sales of the Sims it just goes to show that the section of the computer market that will buy in bulk has very little need for quality. Which bodes ill for those gamers who are discerning and have some tatse.
