Bourne developer misses 360 HDD
Lack of drive poses problems
The lead designer working on VU Games' Bourne Conspiracy outing has told CVG that Microsoft made a mistake not including a hard disk drive in the Core model Xbox 360 console.
Both Core and Arcade releases of the 360 omit the HDD which is part of every PS3 SKU. Having to design for a system which may not include a HDD restricts what game designers can do, according to Rory McGuire.
"In retrospect I wish Microsoft had made the choice to have [mandatory] hard drives like Sony did with the PS3," the designer explained.
"They did it with the original Xbox. I'm not sure why they decided to not require a hard drive on the 360. From what I understand they don't move many [Core/Arcade] units".
"If you have a hard drive, the whole game loads faster. Obviously you'll be facing a short install time, but the developer benefits from it and you definitely benefit from it as a player," he explained further, also assuring that developers prefer having a HDD to work with.
