Turbine's Lord of the Rings Online may be slowly but surely winning over fantasy RPG fans, and the developer clearly have faith in their Tolkien-inspired online world, the firm revealing a new deal with Tolkien Enterprises that will see the developer's MMO license extended until 2014, with a further option to 2017.

As well as Lord of the Rings, the official license granted by the Tolkien estate also covers The Hobbit, and with a new film in the works this is likely to be something Turbine may wish to explore.

In related news, we're expecting a "major" announcement on The Lord of the Rings Online, with European publisher Codemasters stating that all will be revealed at the Connect event scheduled to take place in Birmingham next month.

The first full expansion could be the order of the day, and we'll be sitting down with the developers to quiz them on the MMO's present and future.
