Speaking in a keynote address at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Microsoft have officially confirmed that Gears of War 2 is in development.

Excitingly, the Gears sequel will be released this November as an Xbox 360 exclusive. Which is, its fair to say, somewhat earlier than we expected it.

Speaking during Microsoft's address, Epic big cheese Cliffy B confirmed that the new game is in development, with John Scappert talking up the successes of Xbox Live at the same time.

The Unreal Engine 3 was one of the talk's highlights, Epic boss Mike Capps showing off advancements to the technology, with a version of Gears on display demonstrating improved animation, physics and a marked increase in the number of enemies on-screen.

More on Gears 2 as we get it.
