Codemasters big boss Rod Cousens has warned that it would be foolish to underestimate Sony, given their dominance in the previous generation of consoles, stating his belief that the PS3 will last a decade.

"I really do think it's going to be a ten year cycle and I do think that's something that's been overlooked when people are fairly dismissive of certain hardware platforms," Cousens revealed, as reported by CVG. He reckons Sony are still in with a strong shout in the "HD era", especially with Blu-ray winning the next-gen DVD battle with HD-DVD.

Cousens believes PS3 killer apps could start emerging in two to three years time, noting the success of the PS2 after eight years, stating that the PS3 could last well beyond the usual five-year console cycle.

The CEO reckons Sony will start to gain ground quickly in Japan, as well as furthering its reach in Europe and emerging markets. "I would expect Sony to have real momentum over the coming years," Cousens assured.

North America could be a different case however, given how 'entrenched' the Xbox 360 is. Meanwhile, both Sony and Microsoft are expected to respond to the Wii's success with new hardware, games, controllers, et al.

    They have lots of great games coming out this year too.
    GT5: Prologue, Haze, Tekken 6, The Getaway 3, White Knight Chronicles, SOCOM: Confrontation, MGS 4, LittleBigPlanet, FFXIII, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Heavy Rain, InFamous, Motorstorm 2, God of War 3, WarDevil, Afrika.

    However, some Games such as FFXIII, Motorstorm 2 and God of War 3 may not come out in 08.

    This article really shows what an amateur piece of journalism this is. PS3 is trouncing xbox in Japan and all over Europe, only in America is 360 still holding a lead and that is being eroded every day. Nice to see the adwords on this page are also Xbox360 and Microsoft--coincidence I think not.

    Sorry "Wozza", I'm afraid, on this occasion, it really is a coincidence. The Google Adwords I can see are all for the PS3 and Wii, they change, I think you'll find...
