Eidos have today confirmed that a sequel to 2006 hit Just Cause is on the way - not that were in any doubt, given that developer Avalanche confirmed the new game last year anyhow.

Rico Rodriquez is back to wreak havoc once again, this time taking in the lush South East Asian islands of Panau. OTT action is promised on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

1000 kilometers of island will feature, offering detailed terrain, weather effects, as Rico dives from a plane skydiving through 10,000 feet into jungle, deserts and onto snowy mountains. A new grappling hook will feature, with more silly stunts, vehicles (dune buggy included) and weapons promised. Vast open-ended gameplay is on the cards, with plenty of freedom on offer as to how you complete missions, et al.

The parachute will of course play a part, and Avalanche appear to be upping the ante on all fronts.

"Remember everything you loved about Just Cause, then take it to the next level: vehicles, stunts, weapons, freedom, grappling hook, action, everything," beamed Alex Price, Brand Manager. "The game world is even more incredible in Just Cause 2 and Rico has done a bit of growing up, so expect quite a few new surprises up his sleeves."

The game will be out later this year.
