World of Warcraft reaches 10m
New milestone for Blizzard's epic
10 million avid MMO players are now playing World of Warcraft, according to word from Blizzard Entertainment today. Average players pay in the region of 15 USD per month, and Blizzard's ample coffers saw parent firm Vivendi seal a merger deal with Activision in December.
Of the 10 million subscribers quoted by the developer, 5.5 million are in Asia, 2.5 million in North America and 2 million in Europe. World of Warcraft first launched in 2001, and experts are now asking whether the title has reached saturation point.
The question, of course, is where next for Blizzard's best-selling MMO. The developer are, of course, working on an expansion pack for the game - The Lich King.
More on WoW as we get it.
