Master Chief 'not the star' of Halo flick
Writer demands more 'feeling'
If the Peter Jackson-produced Halo film does ever get off the ground, it sounds as if Alex Garland's million-dollar script won't position the heroic Master Chief in the starring role - rather as a 'leading support', in fact.
That's the word from Bungie writer Joe Staten who has been speaking to industry commentator N'Gai Croal this week, revealing that the Master Chief's steely repose and ever-present helmet wouldn't help create empathy or introduce human emotion to the proceedings.
Instead, the Chief would be surrounded in the film by more 'human' humans, who would "carry" the film.
"Where the Master Chief doesn't have a face, but he has a whole body to emote with, whether it's his spine, or his shoulders. or the tilt of his head, or the way he slumps or reloads his weapon. There are these kinesthetic responses that he'll have which will really easily communicate the character and what he's feeling. That's hard to carry as a main character for an entire film," explained Staten. "But you can certainly surround him with people who don't have helmets on and you can see their faces. They're normal actors doing their thing."
