Valve Software, makers of The Orange Box and purveyors of Steam, recently announced the purchased of Californian developer Turtle Rock - a firm with whom they've been working closely on action title Left 4 Dead.

Turtle Rock's new owners now reckon that the lovely looking new title will be ready in the 'late summer', for what is rumoured to be both the PC and the Xbox 360.

For those of you who've been living in caves, Left 4 Dead is the brainchild of Turtle Rock, and sees the survival-horror genre given a co-op focus, as up to four player controlled survivors battle to outlast a zombie onslaught, attempting to reach an extraction point in various scenarios. The game already has the critics excited, despite being months from release.

Turtle Rock's AI is said to be key to making the experience unique and different between levels, while you'll also be able to take control of Zombie 'bosses', hunting your humanoid pals. Again, up to four players will be supported.

We'll bring you more on Left 4 Dead soon.
