Valve Software boss Gabe Newell has spoken of his ambitious plans for the Steam content delivery service, which he hopes will eventually deliver swathes of retro releases to PC gamers.

"I expect we'll go back in time and eventually pretty much every game that's ever been available will be on there 24/7", Newell told blog Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

He was questioned on the topic of old LucasArts titles, to which the executive replied: "Sure, those are some great games. I mean there are some real problems, where the waters are muddied and companies have gone out of business. That makes things difficult."

Newell also told the blog which classic he'd most like to see re-released on Steam: "I wish we had Ultima Underworld on there. It's a game that I think is invisible to the current generation of game designers."

More on retro-Steam as it emerges from Valve.
