While Rock Band packs are already sold with a mic, guitar and drum kit in North America, those hoping to enjoy a spot of four player fun will need to draft in an additional guitar - with Harmonix already promising that Guitar Hero's controllers will be compatible with their new release.

This is successfully the case on the Xbox 360, but we today learn that it is not the situation with the PS3, where the wireless Les Paul controller doesn't do what it's supposed to.

"Harmonix develops and bases all of our games, guitars and other peripherals on open standards established by platform manufacturers such as Microsoft and Sony. Rock Band is no exception and supports an open controller standard," Harmonix told US site IGN.

"If a third party game controller is based on open standards, then it should work with Rock Band as well. If certain controllers do not work with Rock Band, questions about those controllers should be directed to the peripheral manufacturer."

Naturally, Rock Band's forums have erupted with complaints from PS3 gamers demanding to know why their Les Paul controller doesn't work with their new rhythm-action game as promised during the development process.

More soon.
