Halo 3 has today been announced as the second fastest selling title in UK games chart history, with one in three British Xbox 360 owners having acquired the new title thus far.

Within four days, estimates suggest that some 466,000 copies were sold, with the total Xbox 360 installed based in the region of 1.4 million presently. October 2004's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas holds onto the number one spot, having racked up 677,000 sales in just two days - but the PS2 had sold over 6 million systems in the UK at this point - making Halo 3's achievement all the more impressive.

Halo 3 topped the UK all-formats chart by some margin, then, though FIFA 08 also enjoyed a strong debut - that game combined with Halo 3 accounting for 83% of UK 360 software sales.

    Very interesting. Not healthy to have your hardware propped up by one franchise for sure, but it has given MS a huge amount of press.
