One of the founder members of Blizzard North has told the press that he is hopeful Blizzard will create a new sequel to RPG the landmark title Diablo. Max Schaefer was part of the team that created the original Diablo back in the day, and he this week told CVG that he "can't wait to see" what the developer does with Diablo 3.

Not that this should be taken as confirmation of a new Diablo, or indeed as a hint Schaefer actually knows what's being created, it would seem.

"You know as much as I do about their plans, but what I'd like to see is Diablo in a true 3D environment, taking advantage of the latest graphics bells and whistles, and of course, the Blizzard production values that makes their games special," the developer explained.

Schaefer is now a developer at Flagship, the start-up studio founded by former Blizzard boss Bill Roper. Is the executive producer of Mythos, a free MMORPG which even its creators admit is heavily influenced by Diablo's legacy.

More on all this soon, then.
