Excitable pre-purchasers of Valve's forthcoming Orange Box release were today granted access to the Team Fortress 2 beta, taking place over Steam even as you read the very words on this page.

The new multiplayer title - a long time in the making - takes a fresh cartoon like approach to online battling, pitting colourful characters with varying skills against each other in a diverse range of environments. Orange Box costs 49.95 USD over Steam, with pre-purchasers getting a 10% discount and a free copy of Peggle Extreme. Whatever that is.

Half-Life 2, HL2: Episode One, HL2: Episode Two and Portal are also included in the Orange Box, which will launch on October 10th over Steam, or on the 12th in stores for both PC and Xbox 360. The PS3 version will follow shortly after these releases.
