Sega of Europe have today confirmed that Yakuza 3 is in development for the PlayStation 3 with a release next spring in Japan scheduled. No release has been confirmed for Europe, thus far.

More exploration of the Japanese underworld appears to be on the cards, along with the gritty urban violence that was a trademark of the previous Yakuza titles.

Samurai swords should feature, and there will be plenty of action and indeed adventure as players fight for respect with other gangsters. Yakuza 2 was only released in Japan, owing to mediocre sales of the original title abroad - despite the fact the game was widely regard critically as rather good.

We'll keep you posted on whether the first Yakuza title for the PS3 will make the journey to the US or Europe.
