UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown today outlined plans for a public review of videogames, both the content of them, and their effects upon children. A Daily Mirror report says that Brown will urge the investigation to look at evidence that violent and sexual content in games can have a negative impact on minors.

"I know that parents are concerned about whether children are too exposed to harmful violence and sexual imagery in video computer games and on the internet," commented the Prime Minister.

"So as we launch the court consultation on our children's plan we will be looking at all the evidence on the effects of this material, whether we need new rules for the advertising and sale of these products to children and young people."

Brown will this week discuss plans for the review with a 'Citizen's Jury', which it is hoped will give the public more opportunity to voice their thoughts and influence government policy. A kind of Politics 2.0. Only not, obviously.

We'll bring you more on this as we get it.

the man is an idiot. 18 rated games are for adults, not children. anyone who seriously doesnt know this is either lying or a complete bufoon.

You're right Tez, but if these games are getting into the hands of children (which they seemingly are, right? We see stories all the time) then we need to have a look at the system.

Have a review of shops which sell to minors and prosecute parents who buy 18 games for their kids.

Enforce the laws we have, don't create new ones to be ignored.
