HMV apologise for MGS4 Xbox 360 'mistake'
No 360 release planned after all...
HMV's online retail store sparked something of a stir over the weekend when it was spotted that the shop was listing an Xbox 360 version of PS3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4. Forums and blogs immediately came alive with chatter pointing to this evidence... though it turns out a simple case of human error has left HMV with egg on their faces.
Has Sony's PS3 lost its exclusive clasp on Konami's upcoming behemoth? No, it seems not.
"In his enthusiasm, one of our online games team indicated that hmv.co.uk would start taking pre-orders for MGS4 on Xbox 360, when, in fact, he simply meant to ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform," GamesIndustry.biz quote an HMV spokesperson as explaining.
HMV inform us that they are sorry and that the mistake has now been corrected - sleep easy Sony shareholders.
That said, speculation is likely to continue that Metal Gear Solid 4 will eventually make it to the Xbox 360, as the publisher considers ways to increase their return from the inevitably expensive new title. We'll keep you posted.
