Fils-Aime distances Nintendo from Manhunt 2 row
'Not an image issue'
Nintendo of America chief Reggie Fils-Aime has spoken for the first time of the controversy surrounding Manhunt 2, which was to be a Wii release in July before the ESRB slapped an 'Adults Only' rating on the title, prompting Sony and Nintendo to decline the release of the title on their platforms.
Speaking to Newsweek, Fils-Aime described the title as a game "rated outside our spectrum, outside any manufacturer's spectrum," adding that this is "not an image issue. Wii welcomes games rated E, T and M. We haven't approved AO-rated games. I doubt we ever will."
While Rockster consider re-working the game to achieve a lower age-rating from the ESRB, there has been talk that while a 'Mature' ratinh could be achieved on the PSP and PS2, the more personal nature of the Wii's touch and movement based controls might see the Wii title still in 'AO' territory. Fils-Aime, however, doesn't believe this will be a problem.
"That's an issue for the ESRB and Rockstar to work through. And as I understand the ESRB guidelines, the Wii controls should not be an issue."
More Manhunt 2 chitter-chatter as we get it.
