News in today reveals that Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the long-awaited Team Fortress 2 and Portal are all set for release on October 9th, with developer Valve informing US site Shacknews of their plans yesterday.

Valve have been mooting an October launch for some time, so this tied-down date comes as little surprise. The date covers the launch of the new game(s) on Steam, and at US retailers too; though other regions are likely to have to wait a few days before the game arrives in stores.

While work is said to be going well on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3, in addition to the PC, it is unclear if the console titles will hit shelves at the same time as the PC outing.

We'll try and work out Valve's exact plans in the meantime.
