Square Enix have this week been talking up their first Final Fantasy outing on the PlayStation 3, producer Shinji Hashimoto enthusing that FFXIII's world will enchant gamers for a decade.

Speaking to Nintendo Dream, Hashimoto compared the various merits of an evolving story with a new one, a la series' like Harry Potter and Star Wars. "Different from something like VII, which we expanded upon afterwards, with Fabula Nova Crystallis FFXIII we thought about an expansive world setting from the start," Hashimoto commented according to a translation by IGN. "Under the idea of wanting everyone to be sucked into the world for 10 years, we're preparing a number of categories."

An expansive world certainly sounds appealing, as does the idea of a universe capable of encompassing a number of plots and character across multiple products.

Hashimoto pointed out the following common points between titles in the Final Fantasy series: "there are Chocobo-like living creatures, there are crystals, there's travel via air ships, there are items such as potions... and the genre is RPG."

No release date has been announced for FFXIII, though a demo is hoped for at some point this year. More soon.
